Configuration Manager
Enhance your Observability with Backups and Automations with Network Configuration Manager
Take Full Control
of Every Device Configuration in Your Network
Your network runs on configuration files. Every outage caused by an undocumented change, every failed audit, every hour lost restoring a device from memory — it all traces back to configurations that nobody backed up, versioned or verified. Viewtinet Network Configuration Manager turns that risk into a controlled, automated and fully auditable process. It is a complete Network Configuration and Change Management (NCCM) module, natively integrated into the Viewtinet platform, designed to back up, compare, validate and deploy configurations across your entire multivendor infrastructure — from a single interface, on the schedule you define.

One Central Repository
For Every Configuration in Your Network
Configuration Manager automatically collects and stores the running-config and startup-config of every managed device, building a centralized archive that is always up to date and always available. Instead of scattered text files on engineers’ laptops, you get a structured, searchable repository organized by task, subtask and device.
Browse the full hierarchy with the built-in file browser, preview any file inline, download individual snapshots or bundle a full selection into a single ZIP for offline storage and audit evidence. When a device fails, you are never more than a few clicks away from the exact configuration it was running yesterday, last week or last quarter.
Version Control,
Comparison and Change Alerts
Knowing what changed is as important as having a backup. Configuration Manager maintains a complete version history for every device, so you can track how each configuration has evolved over time and roll back to a previous state whenever you need to. Select any two snapshots and the side-by-side diff viewer immediately highlights every added, removed and modified line — no manual inspection, no guesswork.
You can also merge multiple captures into a single consolidated file, with each merged result timestamped for full traceability. Combine this with configuration change alerts and you get an early-warning system: the moment an unauthorized or unexpected change appears on a device, your team knows about it.

A Reusable Command Catalog
That makes Automation Repeatable
At the heart of the Network Configuration Manager module is a catalog of reusable command templates that you build once and run as often as you need. Each command is defined with a descriptive name, the payload to send, and execution options such as Require Config (only run against devices that already have a stored configuration) and Collect Config (automatically fetch and archive the device configuration after execution). Four command types cover every operational scenario:
- Commands List — a sequence of one-off operational commands such as show version or show interfaces, ideal for health checks and inventory queries.
- Config Set — an ordered set of configuration commands applied directly to the device, without having to handle configuration mode manually.
- Config File — upload a complete, pre-built configuration template or backup and push it wholesale.
- Commands Prompt List — command-and-expected-prompt pairs for advanced interactive sessions, so you can drive multi-stage wizards and non-standard device dialogues reliably.
The result is a shared, standardized library of network operations that any engineer on your team can execute safely — instead of tribal knowledge locked inside individual heads.
Scheduled tasks
and Intelligent Action Flows
Network Configuration Manager lets you orchestrate recurring and one-off jobs against entire groups of devices. A Task combines a device filter with a schedule; each Subtask is a specific command invocation within that job. Define a one-off execution date or build a recurring cron schedule with minute, hourly, daily, weekly and monthly options, and enable Allow Individual Failure so that a single unreachable device never halts the rest of the run.
Where Viewtinet really stands apart is the visual flow editor. You don’t just chain commands — you design intelligent action flows in which the system follows different execution paths depending on whether each command succeeds or fails (OK/NOK). That makes it possible to automate genuinely complex procedures: preventive maintenance windows, firmware and software upgrades, contingency plans and automated rollbacks, all with conditional logic built in. Every run is fully logged, with start and finish timestamps, host success and failure counts, command-level statistics and the raw device output available for inspection at any time.

Bulk Deployment
Across Hundreds of Devices at Once
Rolling out a new SNMP community, an updated NTP server, a hardened access list or a corporate banner across a large estate is normally days of repetitive work. With Configuration Manager, you define the change once and deploy it simultaneously across every device matched by your filter. Mass configuration deployment dramatically reduces rollout time in large environments, eliminates the copy-and-paste errors that cause outages, and guarantees that every device ends up in the same, intended state. Filters can target devices by vendor, operating system, IP address, device type or any other inventory attribute, and can be combined with AND, OR and NOT operators for precise scoping.
Search Across Every Configuration
in Your Network
Because every configuration is centralized and indexed, Network Configuration Manager turns your archive into a live source of network intelligence. Ask questions across your entire estate and get answers in seconds:
- How many interfaces are hard-forced to 100 Mbps across my network?
- Which devices still have a specific local user account configured?
- Which devices are running a deprecated SNMP community, or authorize a given IP address to poll them?
- Where is a legacy protocol, cipher or ACL entry still present?
This is the capability that transforms configuration management from a backup routine into a compliance, security-hardening and audit-readiness tool. What used to require a week of manual review becomes a single query.

Natively Integrated
with Viewtinet Obserbability and RCA
Network Configuration Manager is not a standalone tool bolted onto a monitoring platform — it is a native module of the Viewtinet suite. Every action executed by the module is itself a data source: task executions, results and OK/NOK outcomes feed directly into Viewtisight, where they can be visualized and correlated in your dashboards alongside performance, flow and log data. That means a configuration change and its network impact appear in the same place, on the same timeline. Configuration Manager also builds on the shared Inventory module, reusing the devices, filters and access credentials (SSH and Telnet) you have already provisioned, so deployment is fast and there is no duplicated administration.
Automated Preventive Maintenance
and Resilience Testing
The most valuable maintenance is the kind that happens before anyone notices it was needed. Configuration Manager lets you turn preventive maintenance into a scheduled, repeatable and fully logged routine instead of a task that keeps slipping down the priority list. Schedule controlled device reboots to verify that your high-availability pairs actually fail over the way the design says they should. Deliberately bring down a primary link during a maintenance window to confirm that the backup circuit takes over — and that it carries real traffic, not just a green status light. Automate the housekeeping that quietly degrades performance over months: cache clearing, token and session key rotation, log rotation and archiving, temporary file cleanup, or resetting counters ahead of a reporting cycle.
Because every one of these routines runs inside an intelligent action flow, you are not simply firing a command and hoping for the best. The system evaluates the result of each step and follows a different path depending on success or failure (OK/NOK), so a reboot that doesn’t come back cleanly can automatically trigger a rollback, a restore from the stored configuration, or an escalation — all without an engineer watching a terminal at three in the morning. You stop discovering that your redundancy doesn’t work during a real outage, and start proving that it does, on a schedule you control.
